One priced parts list
Christmas lights material cost calculator
Put the whole roofline in one form and get an itemized list of every part, the lowest-cost packs or cases for each, a total and a material cost per foot.
How each line is calculated
- Bulbs: feet × 12 ÷ spacing, plus spares, priced as 25-packs or 500-bulb cases.
- Socket wire: feet × (1 + waste %) plus 3 ft. of lead per run, divided into 1,000 ft. spools at the chosen spacing.
- Clips: one per socket. All in One clips (100-pack or 3,000-case), C9 O clips (100-pack or 1,000-case) or magnet clips (100-pack or 2,000-case).
- Plugs: one male and one female per run, in 50-packs or 1,000-cases.
- Stakes, timers, cord: 8 in. light stakes, photocell timers and 250 ft. lamp cord spools at the quantities you enter.
Reading cost per foot
The total divided by lit feet is the number most people compare. It includes the full cost of every spool and pack you buy, even the part you do not use this time. The results also show the value of what is left over (unused wire, bulbs and clips), because those carry forward to the next roofline.
Clip choice changes the budget
Clips are one per socket, so they scale with bulbs. At the snapshot prices an All in One clip costs $0.180 each in a 100-pack and $0.183 in the 3,000-case; a C9 O clip $0.249 and $0.228; a magnet clip $0.800 and $0.772. The calculator compares both for your quantity, so it will not pick a case that costs more. Magnet clips only hold on steel, such as metal roofs and fascia; they will not grip aluminum gutters.
Frequently asked questions
What does the material cost include?
C9 LED bulbs, bulk socket wire spools at your spacing, one clip per socket in the clip style you choose, a male and a female plug for each run, optional stakes, photocell timers and SPT-1 lamp cord for jumpers. Labor is not included.
How does it decide between packs and cases?
For every line it prices each possible combination of cases and packs that covers the quantity and keeps the lowest total. Small jobs usually land on packs; larger ones cross over to cases.
Why is my cost per foot higher on a small job?
Socket wire is sold in 1,000 ft. spools and plugs in 50-packs, so a small job pays for the whole spool and the whole pack. The leftover carries into the next job, which lowers the per-foot cost across a season.
Should I compare against an installation kit?
Yes. Installation kits bundle socket wire with bulbs and install hardware at a set footage. The calculator shows the nearest kit's price per foot next to your itemized total so you can compare; open the kit page for its exact contents.
